  • Sloth

    Sloths are animals whose hearts beat much more slowly than humans'. As a result, their metabolic rate is also very low. Because their digestion is slow, they defecate only about once a week. Although they are known for being slow-moving animals, they can actually move surprisingly quickly in the water. In fact, they sometimes appear more agile while swimming than when they are in trees.

  • Binturong

    The Binturong is an animal with a unique appearance that resembles a cross between a bear and a cat. It has a long tail relative to its body size and can use its tail to grip objects firmly. It is characteristic of the binturong to use its tail when moving. It is also well known for having a scent similar to popcorn.

  • Slow Loris

    Slow lorises are nocturnal animals that, as their name suggests, move very slowly. They have large eyes that allow them to see well even in dark environments. They live in trees and have strong hands that can grip branches firmly. They secrete a toxic substance near their elbows to protect themselves.

  • Capybara

    Capybaras are the largest rodents, which is why they’re often called “the world’s biggest rats.” They have a very laid-back and gentle temperament, so they get along well with other animals. They love being in the water, which is why they’re also nicknamed “water pigs.” They have webbed feet, so they’re excellent swimmers. Have you ever seen a capybara defecating in the water? Since doing their business in the water helps eliminate odors, they developed the habit of using the water as a bathroom while fleeing from predators.

2. Which animal would you like to show off at the Hanam branch?

This is Tantani, the sleepy two-toed sloth from the Hanam branch.

Since he spends more time sleeping than awake, many residents pass by without even noticing Tantani’s presence.

If you visit Echo Hill, please look up at the ceiling! You can witness Tantani’s specialty: tree climbing skills.
