  • Sturgeon

    Sturgeons are an ancient species that have existed for a very long time. They are characterized by the hard, plate-like scales that cover their entire bodies. Their mouths are positioned on the underside, making them well-suited for searching for food by feeling along the riverbed. They grow very slowly and have long lifespans; some individuals live for more than several decades.

  • Small-clawed otter

    The small-clawed otter has a body perfectly adapted for swimming. It has valves in its nostrils that close automatically when it dives, and webbed feet that make swimming a breeze. Plus, an otter’s fur doesn’t get wet easily! With a double coat consisting of thick, glossy, water-repellent fur and soft underfur, it’s highly effective at keeping them dry and warm. Have you ever seen an otter rubbing its body against things? There are two reasons for this. It’s either to mark its territory by leaving its scent, or to dry its wet fur.

  • Guinea pig

    When they were first sold in the UK, they were traded for “1 guinea,” a unit of currency, and were named “guinea pigs” because their squeaks sound like “pig noises.” They are a species of the Caviidae family, with four toes on their front feet and three on their hind feet, and can be considered relatives of capybaras and maras. They can be easily startled by even the slightest noise, so please speak in a whisper around guinea pigs!

  • Chipmunk

    Chipmunks dig burrows underground to make their homes and build food storage caches nearby. When carrying food, they store it in their elastic cheek pouches, which can easily hold about seven peanuts! Their tails are very fragile, so they really hate having their tails grabbed. If you encounter a striped squirrel, please don’t touch it with your hands—just watch it with your eyes!

Hi there~ I’m “Dongdong,” the animal caretaker at the Gyeongju branch of Zoolung.
I love cute animals, and I enjoy introducing them to our visitors,
which is why I work as a zookeeper.
When you see me, please ask me lots and lots of questions about the animals!

2. What is your favorite animal on Zoolungzoolung?

My absolute favorites are my desert fox friends: Egg, Mayo, and Peanut Butter.
I’m raising these sassy yet adorable foxes and getting a little personal satisfaction out of it too!
You can meet my desert fox friends up close at 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM,
so if you’re an explorer who loves desert foxes as much as I do, why don’t we go meet them together?

3. How can I make the most of my visit to the Zoolungzoolung Gyeongju location?

You can make treats for the animals with a zookeeper and listen to explanations about their ecology!
